Benefits of Using a Hermit Reusable Razor

Benefits for Your Skin & Shaving

Believe it or not, reusable razors are better for shaving than disposable plastic razors. Here’s why:

Less Irritation & Great for Sensitive Skin

The razor blades used in safety razors are extremely sharp. They offer a closer, cleaner and smoother shave. With a sharp single blade, there is less pull on the skin, causing less irritation. Typical disposable razors have 2, 3, 4, or even 5 blades! While we’ve been led to believe this is better, it's quite the opposite. More blade equals more irritation. The fewer times you drag a blade over your skin, the happier it will be.

For this reason, reusable razors are a great option for those with sensitive skin! You can also say goodbye to those painful razor burns, bumps and ingrown hairs. Reusable razors are much less likely to cause these common skin concerns.

Great for Coarse Hair

Reusable razors are also beneficial for those of us with thicker, coarser hair. If your disposable razor is constantly getting clogged or is just not doing the job, try switching to a reusable razor. Not only are the blades sharper, you can also change them out more frequently.

Easier to Keep Clean

Another important benefit is that reusable safety razors are much easier to keep clean! Disposable razors are hard to clean, become easily clogged, and tend to build up grime (and bacteria!) over time. This means that every time you shave you are transferring that bacteria onto your freshly shaven skin - no thank you! Safety razors, on the other hand, are quick and easy to clean - keeping them hair, grime, and bacteria-free!

Benefits for the Planet

Reusable razors are a great zero-waste option. The Hermit Reusable Razor is made of durable, high-quality materials, and built to last a lifetime. The only disposable part of the razor is the blade itself and in most places, these can be recycled!

It’s not hard to believe that billions of disposable razors end up in the landfill every year! According to the EPA, it is estimated that 2 billion razors get thrown out every year in the USA alone. Made of plastic and mixed materials, disposable razors are not recyclable. They are also only made to last for a few shaves before they need to be tossed out. This ends up being not only costly (we’ll get to that later), but also incredibly damaging to the planet.

In contrast, reusable razors are environmentally friendly!

  • Zero-waste
  • Razor blades can be recycled
  • The razor itself is built to last a lifetime
  • No more plastic!

How a Hermit Reusable Razor Will Save You Money

Compared to disposable razors, reusable safety razors save you money in the long run! If you're still on the fence as to whether you should make the switch, check out the cost breakdown below.

Don’t Have to Keep Repurchasing

  • If properly cared for, the razor is a one-time purchase that will last you a lifetime
  • Double-edged razor blades are affordable and universal, meaning blades should fit all reusable razors (unlike disposable cartridges that are brand specific, more expensive and take away control over purchasing options)

Cost Break Down

Disposable razors typically cost between $1.50 and $6.00 (or in some cases more depending on the brand). If you are replacing your disposable razor once per week you are spending anywhere from $78 to $312 per year.

Comparatively, double-edge razor blade refills cost around $0.13 to $0.80 each. If you are replacing your blade once per week you are spending $6.76 to $41.60 per year.

Granted, the first year will cost slightly more with the initial purchase of your reusable razor, bringing you in at somewhere between $65.76 and $100.60 total for the first year. Even in the first year, you have the potential to save money. All subsequent years you can be saving up to $300 or more!
